Vertigo is a symptom, not a disease. In most cases the cause lies in the balance organ of the inner ear.
BPPV — the most common cause
Tiny calcium crystals in the inner ear move out of place and send false signals to the brain when you turn your head. A simple repositioning manoeuvre in the clinic often gives relief in a single visit.
Other causes
- Vestibular neuritis (often after a viral infection)
- Ménière’s disease
- Migraine-associated vertigo
